Day 40: Down.

My left shoulder is really hurting. I have to give it some rest--it's gone beyond normal "well-worked muscle" soreness and into "I can't get dressed without yelping" pain. It was really sore yesterday, but I figured once I worked out again it would get a bit better (which usually happens if my muscles are just sore from being worked out), but it got worse. So in today's workout, I cut out the chest dips, standing ovations and shoulder raises. I kept the push-ups because I wanted to get some chest work in, but I have to cut the shoulder/chest/arm stuff entirely for a few days to let this get better. It's not in the "good pain" range anymore.

I did hold my planks today--I held the first & the third one for the full 40 seconds (yay!) and the second one for 30 seconds. Plank 4 was a series of 4 10-second holds. Oh well. The first three were good!

I'm feeling down today--really down. Not because of the PCP, or really even because of the shoulder (that frustrates me more than depresses me) but just in general. It's been a down week so far... which means food temptations are harder than ever to resist. (But I am resisting.)

  1. Hugs! Those downer weeks (days, whatever) are tough! Think of how pleased you'll be when you stick to your guns even when not in the best place emotionally!

  2. Can you describe the sore shoulder in more detail?

Up down, doesn't matter, we just keep trodding along. That's where the results come from.

  3. The pain is in the front of the shoulder. I'm not sure how to pinpoint it verbally--so if you look at the picture at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepages/19623.htm the pain is right where the line for the label "cartilage" points. The end of that line hits at the exact spot on the diagram where it hurts in my shoulder.

I can raise my arm straight up (like a front raise) fine. It is a stabbing pain when I start to move my arm across my body, toward the back, or lift it out sideways.

  4. Marissa, I hope your shoulder gets better soon. I know how frustrating it is when pain won't allow making the exercises.

There must be something going on this week... I'm also feeling down.
But, keep it up, you're doing great!
