Day 48: LiftOff! (a.k.a. I was away for a bit & am now back.)

The LiftOff Retreat group. The photo is taken at the Saguaro Lake Ranch in Mesa, Arizona, which is where we stayed. It is GORGEOUS. Photo credit: Ivan Martinez.

So I left last Thursday for a retreat with 15 other creative entrepreneurs. [Sidenote: The retreat was freaking fantastic. I am on a post-retreat high of creative energy, clarity & drive. Unfettered awesomeness, baby!]

The place we stayed served very local, non-process-y foods (all made right there on location), but the meals didn't line up with the PCP menu. It was basic "main dish + two side dishes" type of meals. Portions were reasonable, never went for big helpings or seconds, but it wasn't a PCP menu. (Can you imagine if it had been though? LOL I'm envisioning people looking at loads of egg whites and yogurt and going, "What the heck?")

I didn't stress about it--and truthfully, food was the least of my focuses while there. There was so much going on with brainstorming and collaboration and planning and getting to know one another... stressing about the food on my plate just wasn't a part of the trip.

We went for a (very) long walk on one of the days (and I managed to get blisters all over my feet, because the shoes I was wearing were not made for long walks--I hadn't planned for that particular activity at the time we did it! LOL), but other than that, I didn't work out. I was getting up about 2.5 hours earlier than usual as it was, so getting up an additional 2 hours earlier to work out was my plan, but was, frankly, totally unrealistic.

But here's the thing... I'm okay with all of this.

As I sat down to write this entry, I thought, "I should probably say I feel really guilty about how un-PCP this past week has been..." but I really don't. It wasn't the ideal in terms of the PCP, but it happened. It's not the "norm" for my life or schedule, and I'll be getting back on the PCP path now that I'm home and back into my usual routine, and the retreat was such a fantastically dynamite experience in so many ways that I can't honestly begrudge the fact that it took me off the PCP track for a bit.

Trade-offs, you know? Food & working out took a backseat to the work I was doing on my business and my network for those days. Different focus, different benefits reaped. Trade-offs.

I'm hopeful that the time off has been good for my shoulder. It still hurts like a you-know-what when I move that arm laterally or backward, though, which is not ideal. We'll see. Being back on the PCP menu & the turbo-protein levels will be good for it.

I'll be back on full-normal-routine-as-usual starting tomorrow, so it will be a full week since I last did a true PCP workout. I'll report on how it goes!

  1. Like I tell people, Peak Condition means knowing when to eat like a normal person and take a day off. Sounds like you're on track.
